Our Craftsmen

We offer our clients access to the expertise of an unrivalled network of independent working craftspeople, based all over Britain. Some of them have worked closely together on our projects for decades, others are recent ‘discoveries’. All of them work to the highest standards of craftsmanship: if they didn’t, we shouldn’t work with them. So we can unreservedly recommend their products.

We closely monitor all their work for historical accuracy, and where required provide them with detailed pictorial and documentary sources and measurements to work with. And because we work directly with our craftspeople, overheads are kept to a minimum, and costs to the client are kept down.

Historic textiles

We have long specialised in the production and making-up of authentic historic textiles for wall-hangings, working beds and other elements of period interiors.

We can supply and fit mediaeval striped 'say' hangings, Tudor 'dornix' fabric, Stuart 'Kidderminster Stuff', patterned Georgian silk or humbler homespuns, 'decade-specific' Victorian and 20th-century furnishing fabrics and bed or table linens for any period.

Replica textiles copied from surviving fragments can be hand-woven and vegetable-dyed (for example with woad, madder and weld), or for tighter budgets we can source modern fabrics which evoke the feel and appearance of period originals.

A start-to-finish measuring up, assembly and fitting service can be provided.
